October 7th, 2011- The Coffin Ball - a group art show/masquerade at the Talleyville Frame Shoppe featuring coffin shaped artwork from myself, Adam Cruz, Ric Frane, Tina Imel, Tina Marabito, Kristen Margiotta, Leila Marvel, Dave Mele, Wendy Mitchell, Paul Romano, Ophelia von Grey.

Opening Friday, October 7th, 2011 from 5-10pm. Come meet the artists and see live music by Coffin Fly and DJ Shadylady! Costumes encouraged!

Saturday, June 11, 2011 from 2-3pm I will be at the Bear Library (101 Governors Place, Bear, DE 19701) giving a free demo of the comic book class that I’m teaching for New Castle County. The class is open to ages 7-12 and you can register (for free) by calling the library at (302)838-3300

Sunday, June 12, 2011 from 11-4 I’ll be at the Wilmo a Go-Go Car show in Wilmington, DE with some new comics, prints and original art.

Wicked Winter, New Comics & Reprints

The Wicked Winter show at Talleyville Frame Shoppe was awesome! Had a great time and sold a few prints. Also, when I got home I got a couple more orders on my website for the ABC Monster screen print and realized that it is now SOLD OUT! I went and ordered some more from Spaceboy Clothing so they should be back in stock very soon!Also, I’ve got my new mini-comic, “Snowcones” up in my store now and should have another new mini in a couple weeks!

New Year, New Projects

Got a bunch of awesome projects scheduled for 2011. First off, In addition to working on contracted illustration projects, I’ll be making a mini comic every month for the next 12 months. I’m just about done the first comic, which will be available in my store at the end of January. Also, in February I will be showing some of my new work at the Talleyville Frame Shop (Talleyville Frame Shoppe & Gallery, 3625 Silverside Rd., Wilmington, DE 19810) as part of the “Wicked Winter” show (Opening from 5-10 on February 5th).Also, I’ll be teaching some more comic book workshops, classes and camps for New Castle County this coming year. I’ll post more info about those as I get it.And I’ve started sending out my first promo mailers of the year…

Up! Fair quick re-cap

First of all a HUGE thanks to the organizers of the Up! Fair (Sara Turner, Jerzy Drozd, Anne Drozd, Mark Rudolph, Shawn Robare, Carrie Robare and Kevin Cross) for putting together an AMAZING event!Friday Nov. 19th was the Up! Fair gallery event which was followed by a party where we got to draw on the walls. I had an awesome time hanging out and getting to know some of the other artists.Saturday Nov. 19th was a super busy day, but a lot of fun. I split my time between watching my table, checking out everybody else’s tables, attending workshops and leading my own workshop on making mini comics. I ended up getting a couple great DVDs of Jim Lujan’s Ghettomation and a book by J.T. Dockery called “In Tongues Illustrated” along with a bag full of comics donated by the Up! Fair organizers and artists!That’s the short re-cap. There is so much more that happened and it was over way too fast. I really hope that they put together a 2011 Up! Here’s the handout that I’m using for a couple upcoming workshops that I’ll be leading. It’s an 8.5″ x 11″ flyer that folds into a 6 page mini comic that the workshop participants can take home with them.I’ll be leading the “Make a Mini Comic” workshop on November 20th at the Up! Up! Fair

This November 19 & 20th I will be making a road trip to the Up! Fair in Lexington, KY. I’ll be selling my comics and art and also teaching a class on making mini comics. Should be a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to meeting and hanging out with a bunch of other awesome artists!The first annual UP! Fair was conceived of and designed to celebrate creative independent publishers, their works, and most of all, their philosophy.The fair will be a free event to the public held in Lexington, Kentucky. It’s goal is to promote the works of independent creators, inspire the next generation of authors and cartoonists, and provide resources and learning opportunities for other independent creators.For more information on the Up! Caveman Process

Here’s a little bit of a different take on my usual digital process. Typically when I work digitally, I’ll go from sketches to “inking” in Illustrator, then do the coloring in Photoshop. For this piece, I wanted to try to keep the whole process in illustrator to see how it would turn out and if it would make things any quicker. I started by sketching, inking and then adding some shadows using a pen tablet and the brush tool in illustrator. After that I used the pen tool to create shapes of solid color on a layer under the “inks”. Overall, it wasn’t any faster or slower than my usual process…just different.

Mini Comics Mania!

I’m taking my first stab at Teaching art. This fall and winter I will be leading three 8 week comic book classes for New Castle County…Mini Comics Mania!The class will be for ages 7-12 and will cover the basics of making comic books and telling a story. The students will create their own characters and story and each will finish the class with an eight page mini-comic (4.25 inches x 5.5 inches). I think it’s going to be a lot of fun!I’ll post more about it as I get into the first couple weeks…
